Our weekend

Our weekend included most of my favorite things-good friends, good food, crafts and most importantly watching our Ava play basketball!

Friday was the Garden Club's annual Greens sale  I am the president and I helped organize the event.  I should say we have many, many dedicated members that help with our annual greens sale.  It is the biggest fundraiser that we have all year.  For the event we made 140 arrangements and 50 wreaths and swags.  Our members started last Monday (the Monday following Thanksgiving) making the arrangements and wreaths.  Since I work full time I popped over on my lunch to help make arrangements.  I also coordinated a Tuesday night session where our members who work could come and help make arrangements.  During the sale I help with the luncheon.  Here I am with the rest of the "lunch ladies."

I made this sign to advertise what we were having for lunch.  We kept it simple (like they've done it for many years) soup and sandwiches. 

The arrangements and wreaths were so beautiful!  Here are some of the ones our members made. 

I loved this quirky wreath.  My friend Wendy bought it and took it home for her front door.  It is perfect for her!

I bought this small Christmas tree in a turquoise pot with turquoise Christmas balls.  Turquoise is my favorite colors so I was happy to buy this one.

Saturday Rachael and I hosted a wreath making and kissing ball classes for our small business Branch and Bloom. I will post pictures about our classes on Crafty Wednesday.

Friday night and Saturday Ava had a basketball tournament.  Since Ava was in the Czech Republic last year she missed the basketball season.  It has been so long since we've seen her play for her school.  It was great to have her back on the court!  My friend Lynn takes amazing action shots so I am going to do a post tomorrow full of pics from the tournament.

Thanksgiving Week {Waco}

I spent the last week with my Dad and my sister Shelby and her family in Waco, TX.  It was hard being away from my own family during Thanksgiving but I loved spending time with my Dad and sister.  I flew in bright and early Last Sunday.  Shelby, my niece Ainsley  and my Dad picked me up at the airport in Dallas.  We had lunch and then we visited the Dealey Plaza and the sixth floor museum in Dallas.  The 55th anniversary of assassination of John F. Kennedy was actually on Thanksgiving Day so it was special to be there and see the museum this past week.  I have read a lot of books about JFK and have seen a lot of documentaries so it was very special for me to see the museum and Dealey plaza.  My Dad and I went together my sister and Ainsley stayed in a little cafe close by while we toured the museum.  The museum was full of pictures and artifacts about JFK’s time in office and from that awful day in Dallas.  While we went through the museum we listed to an audio recording (they gave each person an iPod) and it was so interesting. It was even more special seeing it with my Dad who remembers that day and watching it on TV. 

On Monday my sister had to work so my Dad, Ainsley and I did some sightseeing in Waco.  Our first stop was the national Mammoth National Monument in Waco.  

After the Mammoth monument we headed to Magnolia Market to shop and look around at the Silos.  It was so beautiful and we took so many pictures.  Everyone was so nice and everything was 100% in the Joanna Gains signature Farmhouse style.  Our plan was to each lunch at one of the food trucks but it was so chilly that we went to a restaurant instead. 

After lunch we went to the Dr. Pepper museum which was a lot of fun.  We learned all about soda fountains and how Dr. Pepper got its start in Waco.  After the tour we had Dr. Peppers and ice cream floats in the little gift shop/soda fountain. 

Tuesday we went and visited my sister at work at Baylor.  I loved seeing where she works and meeting her coworkers.  I don’t know how my sister does it all.  She works full time as the Director of Retention and she is going back to school to get her PhD.   I am so proud of her. 

While we were visiting my sister at work Ainsley and I walked over to see the Baylor mascots.  Two bears named Joy and Lady.  They are kept in a habitat on campus.  Ainsley loves visiting them.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday Friends!  I am so happy it's Friday.  It's been a looonnnggggggg week.  I've had something every night this week after work and I'm pooped. Tonight I am doing my monthly craft night with Branch and Bloom and then Saturday and Sunday I don't have any plans except to work on crafts for the Holiday Market.  I just love relaxing weekends at home.\

1.  One of my favorites this week was going out for dinner and celebrating my friend Heidi (in the red/black striped shirt next to me) who is going to run the Richmond Marathon on Saturday!  She is the fittest girl I know and she has been training for months for this race.  I am SO SO proud of her and I'm happy that we got to go out and celebrate her this week.  I will be cheering for her tomorrow!!

2.  Another favorite was the Order of Omega induction ceremony.  I advise this fabulous group of fraternity and sorority leaders and I am always happy when we do the induction ceremony every semester.  

  3.  My BFF Rachael and her family own a health food store Wednesday they started "we cook Wednesday's" and this past Wednesday was the first one.  I stopped on our way home and got dinner for our family.  Ava was so hungry after basketball practice she starting eating hers while we were walking to the car.  I think this is a great idea and I hope it's super successful!  We will be getting dinner there every Wednesday night.  

 4.  They cut the Rockerfeller tree yesterday and I got this pic from instagram.  It's hard to believe it's been two years since our tree was "the tree!"  You can read all about our tree here.    It was such a fun experience and I hope this years family has a great experience like we did. 

5.  Last night I did my last official duty as Race Director for the Pit Run.  I presented a $55,000 check from proceeds from the race to the Parisian Foundation.  This isn't a great pic of me-ha ha!  But I am so happy and proud of this!  The money will be used by the foundation for youth programs and scholarships.

6. I just love Joanna Gains and I'm so exicted that I am going to visit all things Gains when I go visit my sister and her family for Thanksgiving in Waco!!  I am so excited to see them and my Dad will be there too so that will be fun.  I got Joanna Gains' new book yesterday.  It is filled to the brim with beautiful pictures and I can't wait to sit down and read through it.  

7.  My favorite part of this week was going to the annual Gala.  It was so fun to get dressed up with my friends (Graig hates dressing up so he stayed home) and go have a fun night out!  I was on the committee this year and we spent a lot of time planning and preparing for this event.  It was a fun night!

Our weekend

We had a busy and fun weekend!

Friday night I went to Rachael’s to watch the Dodgers play.  My friend Vicki’s nephew Cody plays for the Dodgers.  He has played on the team for two years and we’ve gone to watch him play both summers. Last year they went to the World Series and I hope they go again this year.  Whenever there is a big game we like to get together and watch it.  Here is a pic  from Friday night.

2 because this was our second game of the day.  The Dodgers had a double header when we saw him play in DC because of a rainout.  

This was a cool little stat that MLB put out on facebook yesterday.

I hope he has a long career!  I love watching him play.

I had to work all day at Emerging Leaders which is a leadership conference for freshman and sophomore students.  Right after Emerging Leaders I got in the car and headed to Albany to meet my friends and Ava for the Justin Timberlake concert.  We have been so excited about going to this concert. It was an amazing show.  We had great seats and had the best time dancing the night away at the concert.  

After the concert Ava and I went home because we had to be up bright and early on Sunday to work at the basketball fundraising breakfast. Ava and her teammates worked hard to raise money for their team.  I made a fall themed basket with a couple of other moms from the team.  I think it turned out really cute and the lady that won it was THRILLED.  

 Here are the JV and V girls all together at the breakfast.  These girls are so sweet and I hope they have the best year playing together. 

After the breakfast we went home and got ready for the week.  I cleaned up our house a little bit and worked on a couple of crafts for the upcoming Holiday Market.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday friends!  We had a fun, and busy week.   My bff Sara and her family visited from Florida.  It was so great to see them and hang out with them last  weekend.  I had the best time catching up with them.  Friday we went to the Cider Mill to get some apples and have lunch.

Last weekend G and I went to the movies to see A Star is Born with some friends. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (btw-who knew he could sing?!?!)  are phenomenal in this movie.  They have incredible chemistry together.  I laughed and cried and I hope they both win academy awards for their performances.  

I’m the president of the Garden Club and on Saturday we did a community outreach project and gave away daffodil bulbs at the Farmers Market.  We gave away 95 bags of bulbs in two hours.  We gave people some instructions when they picked up the bags and included instructions and our meeting schedule inside the bags.  It was a cold, rainy morning but I’m glad it was successful and we got rid of all our our bulbs.  

Saturday afternoon I worked around the house and worked on some crafts for the upcoming holiday market.  I’ve been trying to do a few here and there when I have the time so I have enough for our Holiday  Market on 11/17.

Sara and Sabrina got up bright and early Monday morning and came to my 6 am class at the Y.  It’s a core/cardio/weight class called Total Body Blast.  It was fun to have them there!

Another favorite from this week was Tuesday night when I had some friends over to sample some drinks I’m making for Halloween.   I’m going to be a guest bartender at a Halloween event at a bar/restaurant in our town next Saturday night  and I have to come up with my own signature drink for the event.  My friends and I sampled 5 drinks Tuesday night and their favorite was the autumn inspired Moscow mule I  made. I also made nachos that were delicious!

 Funny story it turned so cold on Tuesday and we didn’t have our heat on so my friends covered themselves up with blankets and we texted this pic to G.
