Every summer we like to do a fun day trip with our neighbors. We've gone to six flags, water parks and state parks in the past but this year we wanted to try something different so we planned a day trip to Saratoga race track!
Saratoga is the third oldest race track in the country. Before each race, a bell is rung at exactly 17 minutes prior to scheduled post time to call the jockeys to the paddock. We got an up close up views of the horses being led to the paddock because the path from the stables runs through the picnic area. There is a also a spring called Big Red in the picnic area where you can drink the famous Saratoga spring water!
It poured rain all.day.long so the track was muddy and wet. We didn't let the rain stop our fun!
Before each race a bugler plays "Call To The Post" to signal the race is about to begin.
We met our friend L at the track too. It wa so good seeing her and her girls!
Brock came too but he managed to avoid all pictures :-). There were 11 of us total and we had so much fun! We bet $2 on each race and some of us even won a time or two!
I definitely want to go back before the end of summer.
If you go:
-Get there early to stake a claim on a picnic table. You can do this by putting a blanket, cooler or table cloth on top.
-You can also set up folding chairs near your picnic table.
-We parked in free parking near the stables. It was a hike to the gates but we got to see horses, jockies, and stable hands while we walked so that made the walk interesting :-) There is also a bus you can take from this area to the front gate if you don't want to walk.
-We paid general admission of $5 which got us bench seating in front of the track. You can also pay extra to have a seat in the grandstand or you can rent a luxury box. We loved being right by the track so general admissions was good for us.
-You can bring a cooler with food and drinks. (No glass). We brought a small cooler and it worked out great! If you're hungry they also have lots of food and beverage options at the track .
Happy betting!
Xoxo
