Impromptu Oscar Party

Last night I hosted an impromptu, informal Oscar party and it was lots of fun!  I love the Oscars and I really tried to see all the movies that were nominated this year.  Sadly I didn't get to see Moonlight but I am hoping to see it soon.  My friend V usually hosts a fancy Oscar party this year she couldn't so I hosted a casual party.  We had a great time.  

My neighbor and friend Kelly's twin sister was AT the Oscars!!   Kelly is next to me in the glasses.  She is an animator for a Disney.  She sent us pics of herself on the red carpet and we sent her this picture of us on my red couch 😂

 

I served Oscartinis as the signature drink.  They were delicious. 

 

I printed ballots and we voted on our favorite films.  

 

Vicki brought this amazing cake from NYC.  It was angel food and it tasted delicious. 

 

I made homemade popcorn and bought movie sized boxes of candy for snacks.  I thought it was a cute idea and my friends loved it. 

  

 

On our chalkboard I added a little poll and had my friends vote for their favorite movie.  

 

I was really hoping Hidden Figures would win best picture.  This was my favorite Oscar moment from last night.  I loved that the real Katherine Johnson got to come and be at the Oscars. 

 

It was a fun night!  I'm glad I had the party.  Sometimes last minute parties are the best.

Super Bowl Sunday

Slowly I'm recovering from my vein surgery.  This morning I got up and took a short walk with friends.  I can't exercise for a week  :-( but I can walk for 20 minutes everyday so I have been doing that.  

At lunch time I went with my friend Lisa to a Super Bowl party our community art center.  We each  bought a handcrafted bowl and we tasted 20 chili dishes and voted for our favorite.  It was a fun lunch!

This afternoon Graig and I went to a Super Bowl  party with friends.  Before the game we played cards. Ava is sick so  she stayed home :-( 

I think she had strep so I'll be taking her to the doctor tomorrow.

Election night party

One of my favorite bloggers Dixie Delights  posted some free printables for Election Night.  I thought they were adorable and planned a little family only party for our family of four.  I think it helped them get into the spirit of election night.  I took Ava with me to vote before school and I realized that Brock will be able to vote in the next election! 

I made this red, white and blue drink using a recipe from Dixie Delights.  I was able to snap one picture of it before B and A chugged it down.  They loved the combo of fruit punch, blue gatorade and sprite :)

I put our menu in a little frame.  I ordered pizza and made donkey tails and elephant ears from puff pastry.  They were really good they tasted  a little like funnel cakes from the fair. 

I printed out some info about each of the presidential candidates and we colored the maps red and blue when the results came back.  Since we live in NY the results came back pretty late we went to sleep at 10 so our maps didn't get filled in all the way. 

Brock let me take a picture of him with his map but he said Mom DO NOT tag me on facebook in the picture-ha ha!

Graig's 40th Birthday!!

Last Friday was Graig's 40th Birthday!  I wanted to surprise him by throwing him a suprise party at work!

Because I wanted it to be a surprise I didn't tell Brock or Ava until they arrived at the party.  We carpool picking up Ava with our friends Dan and Jenn.  Thankfully it was Dan's turn to pick up the girls so he brought Ava with him to the party.  Ava was so confused when she first arrived.  This is me trying to explain to her what was happening.  Brock had basketball practice and didn't get to the party until late. 

Graig's Mom Janice came to the party and brought pictures from when he was little.  They were a big hit!

I was SO happy that Graig was surprised!  He had no clue we were having a party for him! Here is Graig hugging his Mom and Ava when he first came in. 

I had the party on campus so I ordered campus catering for the cake and other snacks.  It made things SO easy!  Everyone in our family loves the cakes from campus!  I get them for our birthdays and other speical occasions.

Monday, Monday!

Monday is my favorite day of the week.  I know that sounds silly but I always feel like Monday is a fresh start.  After the weekend I do like coming in to work on Monday and getting back to work and into our weekday routines.  This week is Brock and Ava's last week of school.    They are SO excited for summer to start! 

I am off from work next week and I want us to do some fun things.  I printed of this summer to do list from the fabulous eighteen25 blog and I thought they could each write down a few things they want to do next week.  My mother in law (Grandma Jan) always does this with them when they go and stay with her so I thought it would be fun for us to try at home.

Tonight I am going over to my friend Allison's house and we are going to be cooking and baking up a storm  to get ready for our 31 Party tomorrow night.   She is so creative and she made this little lemonade stand that we are going to use at the party.

Graig and I worked on house projects all weekend to get ready for Brock's 8th grade graduation party on Friday.  I bought new deck furniture and cushions that I will show you later this week.  I practiced making   iced sugar cookies as the favor for his party.   Those cookies are seriously yummy but they take WAY to much time to make.   One of my new favorite blogs Dixie Delights showed how to make these  baseball favors.These will be MUCH easier to make.

Weekend update!!

We had a busy and fun weekend! Which is a good thing because now Brock and Ava are home sick today :( Poor things I think they both have sinus infections. I HATE when they are sick because they are so miserable and crabby. They are both sleeping now so I can catch up on blogging. I am taking them into the doctor this afternoon.


On Saturday Ava did a cheerleading clinic with our College cheerleaders. After the clinic she got to cheer at the men's basketball game at the college. She LOVED it, she went with her friend Marty and they had the best time.

On Sunday morning we got up super early to get to Applebee’s by 7:30 am!! Applebee’s generously hosted a pancake breakfast for Brock's baseball team. His baseball team is going to a baseball camp this summer in our town. It's a national camp and kids from all across the country come and play at the camp so we are doing lots of different fundraisers to help the kids raise money for their registration fees.

After the breakfast we went to church to watch our friends Dan and Jenn's second son Henry Francis get baptized. He was so cute! Henry is Marty's baby brother. Baby Henry slept through his whole baptism.

Yesterday afternoon we went to a Super bowl party at our friends Dan and Stacie's. They invited all of our baseball friends over for the party. It was fun getting together with them! We spend A LOT of time together during baseball season and during the winter we don't really get together that much so it was fun to spend time together last night. I am SO happy the Saints won!!

Cookie Party Preview

Tomorrow night Ava is having a Christmas Cookie Decorating party with 5 friends from school, I am inviting a couple of my friends over too so it should be a fun night! Tonight I worked hard to get everything ready for the party so when I get home from work tomorrow I can relax and enjoy the party.

Each girl is going to take a box home filled with cookies! I got these boxes at Michael's. I think they will be perfect for the cookies!I got these place cards for 50 cents each at Michael's and I wanted to use them for the party, Graig thinks it's so silly that I want to put these out next to the food because the girls can see I put out for them to eat.
These are the cookies that I made for us to decorate. I love cut out cookies but when I try to make them they never, ever turn out good. So, I decided to buy the refrigerated cookie dough and cut it with a knife. I made three different colors of icing, blue, red, and green and I have tons and tons of sprinkles, crushed candy canes, little chocolates, and mini marshmallows to go on top. I also have my friend Allison's cookie icing set if they want to write their names on cookies.
This is the craft that the girls are going to make to take home. I got the idea from Kelly's blog. I think they are so cute and so easy to make.

Last night I was being crafty and I made this candy jar for my sister Shelby. The jar is a marshmallow fluff jar! I think it turned out pretty good!

Bling Bling

Tonight was my Lia Sophia party, we had a lot of fun looking at jewelry, laughing, talking and of course eating! There was so much bling bling in my living room. Ava with Grandma Jan. Don't they look so much alike? People are always telling me that they look alike. After school Ava went up and put on a dress and some jewelry, she wanted to look nice for the party. My friend Sabrina is experimenting for her Etsy site, she made me this adorable wall hanging for our bedroom. I love the colors in it. It's so cute!
My friend Allison and I are watching the debates. We are both voting for Obama so we hope Joe Biden does good tonight!
