Dining Room!

Today Kelly from Kelly's korner is doing a dining room tour! I just painted our dining room and I LOVE the way it turned out. It's not the biggest room in our house but we do spend a lot of time in there especially since we don't have an eat in kitchen.

Here's our dining room table with our fall centerpiece and the table set.

Our huge chalkboard that I put our weekly menu on.  I also just painted two walls in our dining room a robin's egg blue color.  I LOVE the way it turned out.

This is the wall and door way that goes in to our kitchen.  I made this memo board/picture holder at a craft night with my friend using a old shutter!  Our shoes go in the crock because we have little dogs that like to hide our shoes :)

These plates are on the same wall the doorway leads to our kitchen.
This is a cabinet that I got at a yard sale for $30!  It is solid wood so my friend Sabrina and I sanded it down and repainted it.  It is my favorite thing in our dining room!

Here's a close up of our BIG chalkboard.

Our house was built in 1920 and it has some quirky things about it including that all of our heaters have these heater covers. This is the one in our dining room.

I hope you enjoyed our dining room tour!  I can't wait to see all of the other dining rooms today.  Happy Friday!!

Fall Mantle!

Today the Nester is doing a fall mantle tour.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her blog. I wish she could come up here and decorate my whole house.  This weekend she is having a yard sale and I mapquested it to see how long it would take me to get there from NY...12 hours so sadly I won't be going.:(  I swear I am not a crazy stalker, but if we lived a little closer I would really try to go, I'm sure she is going to sell some amazing stuff!

I really like our fall mantle because it isn't too fallish.  I only have a few fall things on our mantle but I do like to change it up a lot (like every week-ha ha!)

For my fall mantle I followed the 5 P's
1.pumpkins
2.pictures
3. plants
4. plate
5.pears

Here is a shot of our mantle from the entrance to the room

Here is a close up of the center of the mantle.  I LOVE the color of this  plate, it is metal and I got it for only 50 cents at a garage sale.  I know it's not a fall color but I wanted to keep it out because I love it so much!

Here's a close up of my glass jars from Ballard Design.  They were a total splurge but I leave them out all the time.  I got the pears from Home Goods.    You can see a plant on an old scale in the background.

Here's a close up of a picture of Ava.  On the other side I have a picture of Brock.  You can also see a couple of pumpkins and a spiced cider candle from Bath and Body Works.

Here is a glass candle with leaves.  This is from the Dollar Tree (classy!)  You can also see a plant in the background.

I got this pumpkin last year.  I love the stars!

Here you can see the pictures I have of Brock and Ava.

I hoped you like the fall mantle tour!  I can't wait to see the other fall mantles on display today.  Have a happy Wednesday!

Fall subway art project!

I got this idea from my friend Janna from high school. She is SO talented and comes up with the best crafts!

I really liked her idea for subway art so I decided to try one of my own.  This was a fun project to make.  I just painted a canvas and then added different scrapbook letters.  When I was done I modge podged the whole thing.  I put it in our kitchen.  I really like the way it turned out!

Weekend wrap up!!

Our weekend started a little rough.  Ava's principal called me Friday afternoon to let me know that she fell on the play structure.  She asked if I could come and get her right away because she thought Ava needed stitches!   She had a large cut right between her eyes.   I called her doctor and he said that I should take her right to the ER.  On my way to the ER I called Grandma Jan because Ava wanted her to be with us. It took a while but we finally got in to see the doctor and he said she needed three stitches!
Here is a picture of Ava waiting for the doctor.  She was being shy-ha ha!

Sunday was our first day of Sunday School for the year.  I am teaching 3rd and 4th grade this year.   I only had 6 kids today and they were all girls!  I knew almost all of the girls because they are Ava's friends, it's fun having her in my class.  I think we will have a good year!

After church I went to watch Brock play baseball he had a double header!  Ava went apple picking with our neighbors and her BFF Anika. They had a great time and Ava brought us home a ton of apples!  I am going to make some apple crisp this week.

I made one quick project this weekend.  A topiary with little pumpkins from the dollar tree.  I really like the way it turned out!

Happy Monday!

Under $10, under 1 hour!

Today I am linking up to Melissa's blog party "Under $10 and under an hour"  These are my kind of projects!  I love being crafty but I don't have a lot of time and I don't want to spend a lot of money making things.

Monograms are an easy and cheap way to make things that you already have around your home look great.  I discovered vinyl monograms a couple of years ago and I LOVE them!!  I get mine from Decal Monograms on Etsy but you can find them all over.  I like Decal Monograms because she always does a great job and she has really fast shipping!

Here are some quick projects that I have done using monograms from here.  All of these monograms were $6 or under!

I got this container in the Wal-Mart craft section for $3 then I added my monogram.  I use this vase all the time for different things.  I put lemons in it for summer.

Right now it has a pumpkin candle and leaves for the fall

I did the same thing with this little plate that I got in the housewares section of Wal-Mart for $2.  This little plate hangs in our kitchen.

Same idea but I used our monogram on an outside bucket that I got at a yard sale for $2.

I can't wait to see all of the other great projects!  I love getting new ideas for quick and easy projects.

Wordless Wednesday!

Blue Dining Room

I have been wanting to paint our dining room for a while.  Almost all of the walls in our house are beige, khaki, neutral colors.  Our dining room is right in the middle of our house so I wanted something that would really pop and stand out from the rest of the rooms in our house.  I decided on a robin's egg blue color.  I really like the way it turned out!  It only took me 3 1/2 hours!  I started at 8am on Saturday and I was done and cleaned up by noon.  I used the paint plus primer from home depot (behr brand) and I only had to do one coat!

Here it is I painted two walls and left two walls the harvest wheat color that it was before.

Happy Tuesday!

More fall decorations!

Yesterday I put out a few more fall decorations.  I like getting out my decorations a little at a time. I have collected SO much over the years that it can be a little overwhelming.  So if I do it a little at a time it's easier.
Here is our fall mantle.  I moved my big blue plate here.  I know blue doesn't scream fall but I love the color and I like having it out so it's going to stay out.  I also always like having a picture of Brock and Ava and fall candles.

These are my jars from Ballard Designs.  I have had these pears in them for a while but I love them.  I was going to change them out for fall but I think they look fallish so I am going to keep them.

I always change out this candle holder for the different seasons.  I love the little gourds and pumpkins.

This silver pitcher was my Mom's so I like to keep it out to remember her.  I put some sunflowers in it for the fall.

Our living room shelf.  I like changing this shelf for the different seasons.  I love the jar with the pumpkins.  I got it this summer on sale at Hobby Lobby.

I haven't put any of our halloween stuff out yet.  I am going to wait for a couple of weeks to put that out.  I still want to add a few more things to house for fall.
Happy Monday!  This week is a busy week for me at work and Graig starts his fall travel for work so I don't know how many fall projects I am going to get done this week :(

Yesterday Ava her friend Anika and I met Grandma Jan in Cooperstown for the Harvest Festival. It was SO fun.  It was like a old time festival and there were SO many people there.   We went on a wagon ride and Ava and Anika milked a cow!  We also looked at a lot of animals and visited an old village.  It was a fun day.  I forgot my camera but I took a couple of pictures with my iPhone.

Ava, Anika and Grandma Jan eating a little snack-roasted corn.  It was really good!

Ava and Anika trying to get an apple.  They couldn't use their hands so it took them a while-ha ha!

Ava and Anika in front of an Alpaca.  It moved so they got scared and turned around right when I took the picture.

Today we are going to watch Brock play baseball.  He has a double header in Utica so we will see a LOT of baseball today.  Ava, Grandma Jan and I area also going to stop by the NEW Hobby Lobby that opened just a few weeks ago.  I am SO excited because we don't have a Hobby Lobby near where we live.  It should be a fun day.  Happy Sunday!

Home Tour-Living Room

Today Kelly from Kelly's Korner is hosting Show us your Life-living rooms.  I can't wait to see everyone's living rooms!   Our living room is where we spend ALL of our time.  Last Christmas we put our comfortable couches in this room and put down a new rug.  We all love this room!
Here is a view of our living room from the front door.  I have my laptop on ready to update my blog-ha!

This is the view from the living room looking into thedining room.

Here is our fireplace and shelves.

Our comfortable couch where we spend a lot of time!

Our house was built in 1920 so we have some quirky things in our house.  One of the things is the heaters are all covered with these heater covers.  I really like them because they are another place to decorate!

I painted our TV cabinet.  I LOVE the way it turned out!  It only cost $30!  Here is the post where I talk about painting it.

Here is a picture of our living room from Kelly's last home tour. I have really changed things around in here!

Happy Friday!  I am SO glad it's the weekend.  We don't have anything really big on our agenda.  Brock has two baseball games on Sunday but other than that we are going to relax and enjoy the fall weekend!
